Northampton has been a shopping destination for centuries, with the market square one of the largest and oldest in the country, dating back to 1235. There is still a market held there every day (except Sundays), with Monday dedicated to fresh fruit and vegetables. Northampton town centre has an extensive pedestrianised area, with both household names and independent retailers. There are two main shopping centres, the Grosvenor Centre and Market Walk, along with St Giles Street, winner of the Great British High Street in 2015.
